BeachBall Raises $20,000!
The third annual Coaches vs. Cancer BeachBall, held Saturday, August 6 at the Stone Harbor Golf Club, grossed more than $20,000 to support both the American Cancer Society and its AstraZeneca Hope Lodge for cancer patients and their families. Among the guests were Philadelphia Division I college basketball coaches Fran Dunphy (Temple), Phil Martelli (Saint Joseph’s), Bruiser Flint (Drexel) and Jerome Allen (Penn), in addition to Comcast Sportsnet’s Neil Hartman and Sixers General Manager Ed Stefanski. Ree Dunphy and Judy Martelli, wives of Fran and Phil, were co-chairs of the charity event. Guests enjoyed a fun evening at the shore featuring live music, candid photos in the photo booth, homemade Springer’s Ice Cream, and delicious fudge and saltwater taffy from The Fudge Kitchen for dessert.

Coaches vs Cancer of Philadelphia
College basketball coaches spend hours planning and preparing for their opponents. Each year, members of the NABC also spend tireless hours to prepare a game plan off the court in the fight against cancer through involvement with the Coaches vs. Cancer program.
In Philadelphia, Coaches Fran Dunphy (Temple University), Phil Martelli (Saint Joseph’s University), Bruiser Flint (Drexel University), John Giannini (La Salle University) and Jay Wright (Villanova University), and Jerome Allen (University of Pennsylvania) are dedicated to raising funds so that the American Cancer Society can help people get well, stay well, find cures and fight back.
